There are a certain particular number of spots in the United States for the baseball fan to spend their sports oriented vacation getaway at. The popular ones seem to be those that actually have games played in that area. Basically, baseball fans want nothing more or less than to see their favorite teams play. One of these locales that actually have plenty of other attractions for the rest of the family is that of Boston Massachusetts, home of the famed Boston Red Sox.

The stadium of choice here is actually the home park of the Red Sox, Fenway Park. This great and massive open-air auditorium is a monument to the history of the great sport of Baseball, as it was the home field for some of the sports most popular legends. The greats have all played here and left their mark on the greatest American sport. The names that have been called here in the past are memorable ones, recognized by all sports fans, such as Cy Young, Jim Rice, Carl Yastrzemski, Harry Hooper, and none other than the famed Babe Ruth.

This particular version of the home field for the Boston Red Sox was constructed in the early 1900's. Unbeknownst to most, however, it was not the original home field for this legendary sports team. The first was in a park called the Huntington Avenue Grounds. This spot has long since been remodeled and is now being utilized by the Northeastern University College for campus grounds, but is still a great spot to visit for historical reasons.

There are two key times to visit this field. One is during a game, if for no other reason than to see the famed Boston Red Sox play, and the other is when there is no one playing. The reason for the second time is that when you step out onto this historical playing field, you are walking in the very same spots that the greats, such as the aforementioned Babe Ruth, have walked. Some people even bring a ball and a bat. What greater feeling could there be for the avid Red Sox fan than to stand at home plate while your partner is pitching and actually swinging away until you hit your first home run into the stands of Fenway Park. This would truly be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the sports buff.

Boston has a lot of things that are oriented towards the sports fan and activity oriented vacationer, such as sports museums with real Red Sox memorabilia, dining options with sports bars that are centered around the great sport of baseball, shops that sell baseball cards, autographs and Red Sox oriented clothing, and so much more. Boston is a city that takes an immense amount of pride in both their current Red Sox team members as well as those from eras past.
